Missions
College Outreach
Coordinator:
The College Outreach program mails "goodie boxes" to our
college students several times a year. The mission is to remind
our college students that we are thinking of them, praying for
them, and missing them while they're away! The congregation
is asked to make donations for these boxes via pulpit
announcements and bulletin announcements. Donations can be
put in the “College Care Package” bin in the Hospitality Area.
Community Kitchen
Coordinator:
The Community Kitchen is held at the Elkton Presbyterian Church
every Friday at noon. Our church joins other area churches in
providing lunch on a rotating basis. When it is our
turn, a call for help and/or donations of sandwiches, soup or
fruit will be sent out via the bulletin and newsletter.
Compassion International
Coordinator:
Compassion International is an organization that enables
families or groups to adopt children in underprivileged areas of
the world. Over 35 children have now been adopted by members or
groups of our church! Compassion Sunday is celebrated in
April in our church and you can learn then about adopting a
child.
Rotating Winter Shelter
Coordinator:
The rotating winter shelter is a collaboration of area churches
whose mission is to provide food and shelter to the homeless
during cold winter months. Our church sponsors two weeks of
the shelter, and there are a multitude of ways to help – providing
dinners, offering hospitality, doing check-ins and spending
overnights. Prior to our scheduled week, a sign-up poster
will be on the Missions board in the Hospitality Area.
Thomson Estates Mentoring Program
Coordinator:
Our church is in a partner relationship with Thomson Estates
Elementary School (the school where children in the neighborhoods
surrounding our church attend). One of the programs we do is
mentoring. Mentors need to commit to one hour a week to work
with children in need. Training is provided. To find
out more, or to sign up to be a mentor, email Nancy Mitchell at
nhmitchell@msn.com.
